Food Truck Market? Yes Please!

Food Truck Market in Weiden Germany www.wanderlustanddogs.com

Food Truck Market?  Yes, please!  I have said it many times before – Germany will have a fest or market for anything and everything.  There is the huge, well-known, Oktoberfest, volks fests, kierva, Christmas markets, Easter markets, and the list goes on. There is always some fun local event happening and you can bet on finding beer and pretzels at each and every one.  This weekend we decided to go to a food truck Market in Weiden, Germany for some… not so traditional… yummies.  I mean come on, who could pass up a market that is totally made up of food trucks.

We squeezed three grown women and two girls in booster seats into the car and set out to stuff our faces.  It was a tight fit but we made it.  One of the littles even started the face stuffing early on the way there.  To avoid the chaos that was the street parking near the event we drove a little further and parked int he parking deck across from the Pfarrei St. Josef.

Everyone that has traveled with me knows that the driving part I have no issue with.  But the parking… oh the parking… Street parking STRESSES me out.  And it’s not the parallel parking part, I can do that.  It is not knowing when I can park where, for how long, if I need a sticker… so when it’s in a language I don’t know well… I just don’t park.  This is why I always set out with the address of a nearby parking deck.

Kat and Amy had not seen inside of the church across from where we parked before so it was the perfect place to start our little day trip adventure.  Briana and Olive – the smaller part of the crew – really enjoyed seeing inside too.  The tile work is done in blues and greens with metallic gold tiles as well.  So when the sun comes through the windows the inside just sparkles.  Absolutely Gorgeous, and if you are passing through, totally worth a stop.

Once we finished wandering through the church we walked through the main part of town, doing some shopping along the way. Bri got some fancy new shades and Olive had to have a quick ride on the merry-go-round.  If you watch my vlog from this day you will get to see them showing off for the camera.

Afer our shopping trip, we finally made it to the main attraction – The FOOD!,  We strategically made a loop around the whole market to get a good idea of what all we had to choose from before making our final decision.  We settled on starting out at the burrito truck, aptly named, Don Burrito.  Now, we should not have gone in expecting traditional burritos.  Especially when the burritos are named stuff like the “Drunken Peanut butter Turkey”.  So, of course, that is the one I had to try.  It was definitely interesting, and a new take on a burrito.

After finishing our burritos we let the girls have some fun on the bigger merry-go-round and the bounce house.  They had quite a time, although watching kids jump in a bounce house is stressful.  It looks like they are constantly about to clash heads.

Once we let them drain some energy it was time for desert!!  My favorite!!!  We decided to check out the Donut Truck by Donutfactory.  We tried quite a variety and none of them were disappointing.  German donuts are so much better than American.  They are less cakey and more yeasty… at least, that is my non-donut maker guess.  Either way, I approve.  We ended the day with an Espresso Macchiato and cake pops from Sandybel.  I think this may have been the girls favorite stop of the day.

So with full bellies and a possible caffeine and sugar high, we made our way home.

Make sure you try to go to some local events while you travel!  These are some of my favorite memories.

Thanks for this post! You have taken some amazing portraits of the kids! And peanut butter burritos? Wow. I wish I could have ticked that one off my bucket list!
