One Day in Kotor, Montenegro

So my wonderful friends from Sidles Adventures invited me to go on a trip with them and I think before they even told me where I had already said yes.  But finding out the trip was for Kotor and Dubrovnik made it an even bigger YES!  I keep telling (warning) my friends that unless I am busy, I will almost always say yes to an adventure!  So I promptly bought my ticket for the trip.  And for the first time in my travel life, this is where my planning ended!  What?!  It felt weird guys… really weird!  So I researched food in an attempt to feel like I had contributed a little to the planning process.

Teanna and Drew came to my house the night before we left because I agreed to drive to the airport so that we could take advantage of the epic gas mileage my Prius offers.  No reason to waste money on gas if you don’t have too, right?  We ended up sitting around chit chatting away too long into the night – at least too late when you have to get up with the sun the next morning!

We got on the road bright and early and quickly realized we were all starving!  So the first stop of our adventure was…. McDonald’s – like the Americans we are.  But guys…. McDonald’s in Germany is GOOD!  I don’t really eat fast food in the states… but it is so much better here in Germany.  But, back to the trip!  Next stop – Munich Airport parking.  Parking there is much like parking in Frankfurt and you take a bus from the parking lot to your terminal.

Long story short, we flew from Munich to Zagreb, Zagreb to Dubrovnik!  Check out the vlog:

As you can see, we all had a boost of energy upon arriving in Dubrovnik and despite the bad weather, the drive was absolutely amazing.  We wanted to stop everywhere.  The landscape of Montenegro is pretty incredible.

We arrived at our apartment, J and P apartments, with only mild confusion.  The apartment was awesome!  I don’t think we could have asked for better.  We had a spacious living room, a kitchen (which we did use – it is a great way to save money while traveling), 2 bedrooms, and a VIEW!

We decided to go out for a splurge dinner on our first night and settled on Cesarica  and it was an AMAZING dinner!  If you watched the video up above… you already saw the yummy sea food platter we shared!  SO GOOD!  They told us that the owners have been fishermen for generations.  If you are in Kotor, you must eat at Cesarica’s at least once!

After we filled our bellies we walked back to our apartment and crashed for the night, in preparation to wake up and watch the sunrise.  This, unfortunately, was a failed attempt as we woke up to a major rain storm – so I went back to sleep.

When we did all wake up again it was still POURING rain and the wind was insane.  We had major concerns that the day would be a bust, but around 11:00 the rain stopped and we ventured out.  As we ventured through Old Town we stopped at a little bakery to stock up on snacks for the hike up.

Everything was incredibly cheap and also delicious!

This is about the time that the clouds started to lift and there was a hint of blue sky showing through.  This is also when we began to climb up the mountain!  And the best way to share that with you is for you to watch the video!

Seriously guys… watch the video 😛  You get a break from reading while I talk to you!  Also, there are views… really nice views – Kotor is gorgeous.

So I struggled on this hike… mostly because I was still quite congested and my lungs were not working at 100%.  But I made it and it was worth it!!

After the hike, we were pretty pooped and just wanted to go back to the room and crash.  And crash we did.  We popped down to a little take out place below our apartment and grabbed some food to bring back with us so that once we settled in we wouldn’t have to get up and move again.

I think we were all happy to have a quiet night in editing, and watching Big Bang Theory.

And that ends my day in Montenegro.

Montenegro is one of these countries that are not very “popular” for travelers… But it looks very beautiful and the fish plates looks super yummy!!!

Loved the pictures. It looks like a great place to visit. I also fell in love with the flooring in the apartment. Its great that the food is cheap. I think some places really overcharge for food, I hate that.

Yeah, unfortunately most of the sit down restaurants are silly expensive. I think this is because a lot of cruise ships port there.

  8. I have been planning to visit Montenegro since forever and I think those pictures may just have inspired me to speed up planning 🙂

That is great! It is so worth visiting. So many people just look over it but we all agreed it reminded of us of the fjords! Amazing!
